Greening of Inland Navigation, Short Sea- and River-Sea Shipping

Digital workshop on 24 March 2021 to examine the possibilities for reduction of GHG and pollutant emissions enabling inland navigation and river sea shipping to become even more sustainable and innovative in future!

Strengthening inland navigation, short sea shipping and river-sea shipping in Europe in a targeted manner is a key element in reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). While these modes of transport already have all the ingredients of climate- and environment-friendlier freight transport, their emissions must nonetheless be considered and reduced.

Against the background of the European Green Deal, the BSR Access project platform in cooperation with the European River Sea Transport Union (ERSTU), the European Barge Union (EBU), the Maritime Cluster Northern Germany (MCM) and the ShortSeaShipping Inland Waterway Promotion Center (SPC) therefore invited experts from the sector to present potential solutions and engage in a joint discussion. In this digital workshop we want to examine the possibilities for reduction of GHG and pollutant emissions while discussing which steps are necessary to ensure that this mode of transport is well equipped to become even more sustainable and innovative in future.
