Study of inland motor barge navigation under ice conditions published

Together with the EMMA project partner Avatar Logistics, the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) has performed a feasibility study for inland barges operating on inland waterways.

The objective of the study is to investigate how an inland motor barge based on European standards can be modified for navigation in Swedish Lake Mälaren under ice conditions. This first study of ice navigation on inland waterways is an important step to establish inland navigation in Sweden and in the Baltic Sea Region.

The ice study was officially handed over to Avatar Logistics at the Annual Joint Conference of the Interreg BSR Programme Project EMMA and the Chamber Union Elbe-Oder, which took place at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin at the end of February.
